Conservation of a mudbrick wall dating to the early years of the moshava
OrdererThe City of Rishon Le-Zion
Implemented by: Avi Perets

A museum dedicated to the history of the settlement is located in the historic compound of the Rishon Le-Zion moshava. Standing I museum’s courtyard is a brick wall from 1883 that served to demarcate the agricultural plots of the founders of the colony. The wall is built of mudbricks and straw, on a foundation of kurkar.
The purpose of the work was to protect the wall from the ongoing weathering processes by means of treating the mudbricks, filling in the holes that formed inside the wall and reinforcing the plaster.

The following measures were taken during the course of the work: the wall was stabilized by spraying it with lime water (consolidation); lime-based bonding material was used to point up the joints between the kurkar stones; the mudbricks were reinforced by means of fillings the voids with mud, gluing together broken mudbricks and replacing missing mudbricks; the plaster remains were treated which included strengthening their edges and replacing missing sections (lacunae) of the original plaster.
