The Nahal Tanninim Nature Reserve is located north of Jisr ez-Zarqa village and south of Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael. In 2002-2004 rehabilitation work was done on the dam in Nahal Tanninim, which dates to the end of the Roman-beginning of the Byzantine period. Conservation measures were carried out on the dam and its installations and some of them were reconstructed by the Israel Antiquities Authority and Yehoshua Drey (Restoration of Ancient Technology). In order to enrich the visitor’s experience at the site the Nature and Parks Authority constructed a further track that extends from the dam to the west, the length of the aqueduct. Moshe Lerner, a landscape architect prepared the planning, with guidance and consultation provided by the Conservation Department of the Antiquities Authority. Sections of the Low Aqueduct will be reconstructed the length of the track. In addition, other pedestrian paths will be built and shade installations and information points will be set up. Water will also flow through the Low Aqueduct in order to provide a wet footpath for children to enjoy.
