Conservation and restoration of a water installation
OrdererThe Nahal Tsippori Administration, funded by the Ministry of the Environment
Implemented by: Arch. Yaara Shaltiel
Vadim Zaytlin

The object of the project is to renovate and reconstruct the water lifting installation and create a central focal point in the planned entrance to Nahal Tsippori. The work at the site will expose the visiting public to the water lifting mechanism and traditional methods of irrigation.
At the time of the work it became apparent that the existing installation was built on top of an earlier water system, probably on an inspection compartment of a water tunnel. Recently permission was granted to conduct an excavation at the site in order to understand the water system.

Update – November 8, 2005: the conservation work has been halted. An excavation under the direction of Ya’akov Sharvit is being conducted there.

The southern facade prior to the reconstruction. ‘Debesh’ (stone rubble) was used in the past which made it difficult to understand the shape of the structure.
