The Conservation Department of the Israel Antiquities Authority is a partner in preparing a master plan for the Old City. The Conservation Department has been tasked with:
1. Creating an inventory of architectural and engineering items that will include three specifications for example.
2. Creating a planning tool for preserving the skyline that is characteristic of the city and which follows the topography. This tool will be used when a building permit is being issued.
3. Broaden the knowledge base with regards to monuments and sites in the city. Currently there are survey cards for thirty monuments and sites. The survey will be expanded to cover an additional sixty monuments and sites.
